Tallinn Music Week (TMW) has revealed Floating Points and Tirzah as headliners on the festival’s main stage in Kreenholm, Narva on Saturday, 7 May. Curated by TMW ‘s sister festival Station Narva, the night will also present Estonian hip-hop duo Genka and DEW8, in collaboration with the British Blah Records rappers, led by the label’s main man Lee Scott. The line-up also includes local alternative RnB artist manna and Kenyan/Danish artist Black Daniels. 

TMW 2022 Station Narva Stage tickets are now on sale at Piletilevi. The first 50 tickets cost 25 euros, rising then to 35 euros. 

Admission is also granted with a TMW Festival Pass and PRO Pass, available for the best price until 30 April at TMW webshop.

London based musician, composer and producer Sam Shepherd began Floating Points in 2008 and released his breakout full-length Elaenia in 2015 bridging the gap between dance music and his classical roots. 2019 saw the equally lauded Crush and led to a headline show at London’s Printworks. Promises, his critically acclaimed 2021 collaboration with the legendary Pharaoh Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra landed on top of numerous Best Albums of the year lists all over the world and was hailed as ‘one of the greatest modern jazz albums’ by Resident Advisor. Floating Points’ latest solo cuts, “Vocoder” and “Grammar” were released this spring.

The London-based singer-songwriter Tirzah is a master of tender, minimalist love songs. Her full-length debut, Devotion (2028), co-written with Mica Levi. was filled with offbeat R&B melodies and soft vocals that offered a quiet escape. Her latest LP Colourgrade (2021) features some of her weirdest and most wonderful tracks, pop experiments that focus on those sweet moments that happen between moments, reconfiguring customary notions of beautiful and ugly.

The Estonian Best Hip-Hop Album 2021 winners Genka and DEW8 will join forces with the British underground hip-hop label Blah Records for an exclusive rap spectacle. Led by the label’s co-founder and artistic director Lee Scott, the Blah-crew features Black Josh, a member of Cult of The Damned, freestyle-rhyme madcaps Levelz and Sleazy F Baby, the Godfather of Scouse rap Tony Broke, and a heavy-weight beatmaker Reklews.

The night’s line-up is complete with Kenyan/Danish Dnb & Hiphop artist Black Daniels and the rising star of Estonian alternative RnB manna with her airy vocals and bassy beats.

The programme takes place in Kreenholm’s courtyard, in an outdoor setting. Please dress suitably for early May nights.

In addition to musical performances, festival guests can also enjoy art in and around Kreenholm. Sound installation “On the Border/Rajala” by Narva Art Residency/NART resident Jaakko Autio is open in Kreenholm to the audience every full hour from 20:00 to 23:00. Late-night café and an exhibition “Where is the body?” by the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA) and the Vienna Academy of Arts students are open until midnight in the nearby Narva Art Residency, and the lights installations exhibition Border Light” by the students of EKA invites nocturnal wanderers to nearby Gerasimov Park.

The grand Kreenholm Manufacture was built on the shore of the waterfall in the 19th century and was the largest textile factory in the Russian Empire at that time. A complex of industrial architecture developed around the factory that included the factory, a hospital, workers’ barracks, directors’ houses, and Kreenholm Park. The buildings were built in the English style using red brick. Kreenholm situates on a river island, right between EU and Russia, on Estonian territory.

TMW 2022 will take place from 4 – 6. May in Tallinn and from 7 – 8 May in Narva. The Tallinn-Narva joint festival celebrates unity and solidarity. Estonia’s capital Tallinn which from this year bears the title of UNESCO City of Music will send a musical greeting to the eastern border of Estonia.

TMW 2022 music festival features nearly 200 artists from 30 countries across Europe, Canada, the United States and Africa. The music showcase programme in Tallinn will take place on 5 – 6 May and in Narva on 7 May.

TMW 2022 edition unites the teams, partners and funders of Tallinn Music Week and Station Narva festivals.
