The music and city festival Station Narva is returning for its fifth consecutive year to the easternmost Estonian city Narva from 8th to 11th September. Ukrainian electro-folk group Onuka, British acid jazz trio Red Snapper and Estonian legends—pop-rock ensemble Mahavok and hip-hop supergroup A-Rühm—are revealed as the headliners of the event.

On 9th and 10th  September. two historic buildings—the Narva Art Residency (NART) and the Kreenholm Management Building—and the courtyard between them, will turn into the united Station Narva festival club, featuring a diverse range of local and international artists.  

Ukrainian acclaimed audio-visual electro-folk collective Onuka is led by two talented musicians—sound producer Eugene Filatov and vocalist, face and soul of the band Nata Zhyzhchenko. Their name (‘Onuka’ means ‘granddaughter’ in Ukrainian) refers to Nata’s grandfather, the famous craftsman of traditional Ukrainian musical instruments. Their most recent LP Kolir (2021) sees the band embracing their folk influence further, combining it with syncopated dance rhythms and the concept of multi-cultural neo-tribalism. 

British nu jazzers Red Snapper are known for their pioneering synthesis of acoustic instruments, electronic textures and passionate performances that embrace dark funk, hip-hop, dub, psychedelic surf and afro-jazz. Over the last two decades, the band have released a string of widely acclaimed albums, toured globally and supported the likes of Massive Attack, Björk, The Prodigy, De La Soul and The Fugees. May 2022 saw the release of their latest LP Everybody Is Somebody. 

Mahavok is one of the most popular and influential bands to crash out of the 80s Soviet Estonia. Led by the founder and main songwriter-producer-guitarist Heini Vaikmaa, the band will celebrate their 40th anniversary with their trademark amalgamation of pop, prog-rock and hi-end technology, from Vaikmaa’s new double LP Ajarada to Mahavok’s golden oldies. 

Estonian hip-hop trailblazers A-Rühm are back with their straight-in-ya-face attitude, obscene riddims and catchy beats. Ageing gracefully is not their thing, so the original MCs Cool D, Genka and Kozy and producer/DJ Critikal have kept themselves busy in the studio crafting a new album, set to be released on Sony Music Baltics with lead single “Üks veel” unleashed on 12th August.

On both nights, the live programme will be followed by afterparties at the beloved riverside venue Art Club Ro-Ro.

Free daytime concerts and presentations of NART’s summer projects will also take place in the Kreenholm quarter and Gerasimov Park. The festival also invites explore the unique Kulgu area, known as Narva “Venice” and to take part in the Business Day, BAZAR public discussions and the traditional Narva-style breakfast.

Station Narva 2022 festival passes for 35 euros and music festival day tickets for 20 euros are on sale at Piletilevi. The festival pass is valid for all concerts on 9th and 10th September and Business Day on 9th September (pre-registration required). Afterparties at Art Club Ro-Ro can be accessed both with a festival pass and a separate 10-euro ticket.
