Kate NV
Kate NV is the multifaceted outernationalist solo persona of Kate Shilonosova. She is a student of architecture, an illustrator of curious and colourful characters, a live improviser with bells, water glasses, compact synthesizers, and cables, and a master of fermenting and reimagining.
Known also from the post-punk squad Glintshake and Decisive Pink, a duo with Dirty Projectors’ Angel Deradoorian, Kate’s solo debut Pink Jungle EP (2013) was followed by the frenetic Binasu (2014) and the minimalist masterpiece для FOR (2018), the first one by acclaimed RVNG Intl. Its successor, Room for the Moon (2020) saw NV stretching into polished New Wave, flecked with Russian conceptualism, Japanese city pop, and French surrealism—, accompanied by visuals evocative of late 80s public access TV—, just to let her last year’s full-length WOW turn its contents upside down, spilling them across a floor checkered with intrigue and surprise. Kate magnifies the delight hidden in the everyday, creating an escapist fantasy, the best kind of bright, gooey confection that offeris a prismatic shift in perspective and scale, a parallel dimension where the mundane becomes funny, unfamiliar, and sensational.
