Kirill Richter is the most prominent representative of the Russian neo-classical scene. His portfolio includes piano pieces, works for chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras, as well as music for various media formats from choreography to cinema. Over the last couple of years, he has played at iconic venues both home and abroad, including a sold-out Royal Albert Hall where he performed his new album “CHRONOS” on May 1.

The title of the album, created over the course of several years, describes his relationship with time, he explains: “I think time appears in our lives in various states of matter just like water that can be ice or steam. It may be a memory of those who are no longer with us, or an abstract representation of history as a whirlpool of events, or reflections on lost opportunities and the multivariance of human fate, or even the mythological perception of time as a living creature that is open to dialogue.“

Characterised as “expressive minimalism“ but only embracing the expressive half of the term, Richter values contrast, energy and movement, and also experimented with unconventional violin strokes and alternative principles of articulation when creating the album, which is performed as a trio with Alena Zinovieva on violin and Avgust Krepak on cello.
