Station Narva
21-23 September 2018
About
Music
The boutique music weekender will feature international big hitters and cult names alike, from the legendary Liverpudlian masters of nocturnal pop, Echo & the Bunnymen to the singular techno of Actress along some of the best cutting edge acts from Estonia, Russia and Nordic countries. The main music venue will be set in the grandest industrial architecture complex on Kreenholm island that was once home to the world’s largest cotton spinning mill. The premises of the legendary ’hacktivists’ Art Club Ro-Ro will offer euphoric singalong gigs by the beloved Estonian and Russian bands with a backdrop of the picturesque River Narva and the silhouette of the Ivangorod Fortress over the borderline.
Arts, talks, urban space
Besides the main musical frenzy the whole city will come alive with sights, sounds and interactions, providing spaces and places to socialize and collaborate – from art activities in Narva Art Residency to the heated public talks under the umbrella of the local “Bazar” opinion festival, and from the yard picnics to the home concerts by undiscovered gems from the local talent pool.
Stand up and speak dating
The never-before-seen trilingual stand up comedy performance will happen at Art Club Ro-Ro in collaboration with Comedy Estonia, and the European Commission Representation in Estonia will arrange fun and enlightening Speak Dating sessions.
Food and hospitality
Joining forces with Narva’s own “Lamprey” (“Silmupäevad“) festival and Tallinn Street Food Festival by Telliskivi Loomelinnak, Station Narva brings Nordic street food – from chicken for vegans to the smørrebrød – to the Art Club Ro-Ro Festival Street and regional cuisine to the backyard picnics across the town.
Kids and family
The last day of the festival, Sunday, 23rd September is dedicated to kids and families. The Narva Riverside Promenade will host various outdoor activities and happenings the whole family can enjoy. The promenade will also see Tarmo Tammiste, Mayor of Narva City to be passed on the annual title of the autumn cultural capital of Estonia at midday, followed by a public get-together meal at the long table.

About Narva
Narva
Narva is a city of contrasts, a city that has time and again lost and rebuilt its identity. The location on Estonia’s northeastern frontier, along the banks of the rapid river dividing and uniting North and East, is the key to Narva’s past and present. Residing on the fault line between the tectonic plates of world’s civilizations, Narva features a medieval castle that looks like a fairytale illustration, juxtaposed with thousands of square meters of post-apocalyptic industrial legacy that is Kreenholm Factory. Narva also used to be the ‘Baroque pearl of the Baltic Sea’ before mutating into something similar to Cold War era Berlin with its prefab Soviet Khrushchyovkas.
Narva is an Estonian city where Estonian language is hardly spoken. It’s as if Narva has a split personality – you will hear Russian spoken ubiquitously, whereas the written language of street names and advertising is mostly Estonian.
Narva IS NEXT
Narva is a work in progress, a dreamlike post-industrial city filled with promises and purposes for an age yet to come. The city recently decided to reframe itself not as a fragile geopolitical time-bomb, but as Estonia’s next big success story, a creative hotspot, making the most of the advantages of being a border city between Russian and European cultures. Given its unique history, post-soviet quirkiness, geopolitical location and plenty of space for radical improvement, Narva might be one of the most important European Capitals of Culture of all times. So yes, Narva is on the journey to apply for the title of the European Capital of Culture in 2024. Find out more: narva2024.eu

Volunteer at Station Narva
The Station Narva team is looking for active and optimistic people interested in organizing the very first rendition of border town festival Station Narva with us. Primarily, we need volunteers between Sept 10-24, to play a part in the organizing process and different tasks such as distributing posters and flyers, as well as tidying up after the event. In return, we offer an unforgettable experience in one of Estonia’s most exciting locations, a great festival (festival pass or one-day ticket depending on the input), and new friends.
Fill in the blanks and write us by September 5. Some questions function as background information so as to give us a better idea of your interests and activities.
